Who We Are

About Us

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting Louisiana’s abundant natural resources.

Our mission is to manage, conserve, and promote wise utilization of Louisiana’s renewable fish and wildlife resources and their supporting habitats through replenishment, protection, enhancement, research, development, and education for the social and economic benefit of current and future generations; to provide opportunities for knowledge of and use and enjoyment of these resources; and to promote a safe and healthy environment for the users of those resources.

As a volunteer with LDWF, you can choose from a variety of commitment levels, settings, and ways to get involved—whether you enjoy teaching, representing our agency publicly, or hands-on fieldwork. There’s something for everyone, no matter your comfort level or experience.

Your Impact Matters

Did you know that every hour you volunteer with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries does more than help support conservation activities directly? It also helps us unlock vital federal funding.

Simply put: your time multiplies our impact for and conservation of Louisiana’s beautiful natural resources. Thank you
